Innovations for Sustainable Development – Turning Industrial Side Streams into New Products

Our new project aims for a more environmentally friendly manufacturing process and end product. We promote a more sustainable industry and strive to reduce emissions through innovative solutions. Our project, “Utilizing Raw Material Side Streams from the Process Industry in Industrial Elastomer Products,” focuses on using side streams from the chemical and process industries in the production of rubber, thermoplastic elastomer, and silicone products. Our goals are to reduce environmental impact, improve product properties, and increase the competitiveness of Finnish industry in international markets.

Product Development and Reduced Environmental Impact as Core Goals

  • We promote low-carbon solutions by replacing traditional raw materials with materials derived from industrial side streams.
  • We increase recyclability through new material solutions that enable more sustainable production and reduce material waste.
  • We improve product properties by developing profile products that better meet customers’ environmental requirements.
  • We explore opportunities to achieve cost benefits – new materials may offer significant savings in production costs.

Pioneering the Use of Side Streams in the Process Industry

Currently, the market does not yet offer sealing profile products that utilize side streams from the process industry. OT-Kumi aims to be a pioneer in this area, offering customers innovative and environmentally friendly solutions. At the same time, the project supports the company’s long-term strategy focused on more sustainable use of raw materials and strengthening Finnish industry.

A New Production Process and More Sustainable Products

The project’s goal is to develop a new production process. We are developing a method to utilize selected side stream raw materials in the manufacturing of profile products.

Additionally, our goal is to bring new profile products to market with improved properties.

Towards a More Environmentally Friendly Future

This project is a key step towards OT-Kumi’s long-term environmental objectives. At the same time, it supports our customers in meeting their sustainability requirements and strengthens our competitiveness in both national and international markets. Innovation arises not only in product development but also as practical knowledge that guides future investments and technological solutions.
